Grantown on Spey
At the centre of the Scottish Highlands
Grantown-on-Spey is a classic example of a 'planned' town, on a grid basis, with a broad main street, and a large town square, dominated by the Grant Arms Hotel - one of the largest and earliest buildings in the town. The plans were laid down around 1765 by Sir James Grant, who built mills and factories, a Hospital and an Orphanage. The Town boasts an excellent range of shops on the High Street, beautiful woodland and riverside walks by the mighty River Spey, and a very good golf course.
